FCL Trustees

Our Board of Trustees includes senior leaders with experience of the Church and from business and the public service sectors. Each has specific expertise in leadership and people management.

Dame Janet Trotter LL was appointed as Chair of the Trustees of the Foundation for Church Leadership from October 2006; Dame Janet Trotter is also Chair of Gloucester NHS Foundation Trust. She retired as Director of the University of Gloucestershire in the summer of 2006. Janet has also previously worked at King Alfred’s College of HE, Winchester and St Martin’s College of HE, Lancaster.

Mr Mike Carson is Founding Partner of MCA Group. Before that Mike worked as a senior client counselor and problem solving team leader at McKinsey and Company. Mike is a committed Christian and is a licensed Reader in the Diocese of Winchester where he preached regularly and supports youth and student work.

Mr Andrew Day has a fundraising background and has most recently been Chief Executive of the fundraising consultancy Compton Fundraising Consultants. He has been actively involved in capital fundraising campaigns for a range of Cathedral clients and has co-authored a book on capital fundraising in the UK. Since 2009 Andrew has served as a Chair of the Certified Fund Raising Executive examination board.

Dr Eve Poole lectures on Leadership at Ashridge Business School. Her previous careers have included time with the Church Commissioners, the Scottish Redundant Churches Trust, and Deloitte Consulting. She holds a PhD in capitalism and theology from the University of Cambridge.

Mr Norman Pickavance is Group HR Director with Wm Morrison Supermarket plc, having begun his career as an organization development manager with Diageo. During his time at Wm Morrison Norman has initiated the introduction of a Leadership Programme for the personal development of senior leaders and the introduction of the larges NVQ programme in the UK. In addition to this work Norman has founded and Chairs a charity called Create, a social enterprise which is committed to developing innovative training and employment opportunities for people who have been homeless, marginalized or vulnerable.

Mr Mike Wilkinson is currently a Senior Adviser to the Extractive Industries Transparencies Initiative. This follows on from a career with Shell where he held various HR roles, including Executive Vice President Global HR before broadening into other areas, including sustainable development. During his last three years with the organization Mike was Executive Vice President Sustainable Development.

The Rt Revd Trevor Willmott has been Bishop of Dover since 2010. Before that he had been Bishop of Basingstoke, Archdeacon of Durham and Director for Ministry in Peterborough. For a number of years he was also Chairman of the Trustees of the Edward King Institute for Ministry Development.

Founding President:

Mr John Marks, FCL’s Founding President, before his retirement was a Director of Trebor, the sweet making company. He has interests in teamwork and teambuilding and supports a number of ventures through his charitable activity.

Vice Presidents:

Mr Stephen Bampfylde is a Partner in the executive search company of Saxton Bampfylde Hever. He was a member of the C of E Archbishops’ Council, its principal direction-setting group. He is also Chair of the Council at Guildford Cathedral.

Sir Philip Mawer is formerly Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards and Secretary General of the C of E’s General Synod and Secretary General of the Archbishops’ Council. His earlier career had been in the Civil Service, including the post of Secretary to Lord Scarman’s Inquiry into the Brixton Disturbances.

Mrs Sally Muggeridge is Chief Executive of the Industry and Parliament Trust, Sally has had a distinguished career in business working as Director, Development for Pearson plc and before that Human Resources Director of Cable & Wireless, Asia.

FCL Officer:

Canon Louise Gilbert has been Diocesan Secretary in the Diocese of Rochester since February 2000. She is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, has an MBA and previously worked in the glass research industry.
